I love the colours this time of year. Although, today it’s pouring with rain and yesterday it was freezing cold! Still, I find being outside in the colourful environment of Winter really therapeutic.
This week, I saw something I’d seen many times before from a new perspective. And it made me think about some important truths that I think are worth remembering as we seek to live a life that matters.
Wiser podcast episode 25 - What Nature Teaches, We Should Learn
(dur 16:04 mins)
Speaking of bush…
I’m Reading The Swedish Forest Monk
Björn Lindeblad wrote a shortish book called I May be Wrong. I’m really enjoying it because it’s a wee bit intriguing, contains little woo-woo, and is written in plain English. Bjorn shares lots of neat stories and the insights they brought him from 20 years as a forest monk.
For example, one story is how he found it hard to learn to meditate, something the monks did for long periods of time. He said that while he was learning to be more spiritual, he couldn’t stop thinking about having a real coffee because the Nescafe they served wasn’t doing it for him. And he was also thinking about his ex-girlfriend! I thought, I like this guy. He’s being real and I can relate.
Look him up on Google if you’re interested. Unfortunately, he passed away recently from motor neurone disease. But his story is interesting and his insights are worth your time.
From the Grandad Files
My granddaughter and I do dumb and fun things together all the time. One of these things is called ‘The flying Asparagus.’ I won’t bother explaining it in too much detail but, essentially, it involves me throwing myself onto the bed in the shape of an asparagus.
I know…
Anyway, we were doing our teeth together this week before her bedtime when she asked me to do the flying asparagus again.
I said, “Sweetheart, perhaps not. I’m getting older these days and it’s not so easy as it used to be.”
She replied, “Oh come on Grandad. You’re still young, you can do it. After all, you haven’t even got your gold card* yet!”
This from a 10 year old.

* A Gold card is what people get in New Zealand when they turn 65 years old and apparently retire. It gives oldster discounts. :) I am soon to turn this illustrious age, will get the card, will enjoy the discounts, will NOT be retiring.
